LibX Toolbar

Firefox/IE Library Toolbar

The Firefox/IE Library Toolbar is a Firefox/IE add-on that provides easy access to Maryville Library resources while you're using other sites on the world wide web. This toolbar is a customized version of the LibX toolbar created at Virginia Tech U.

Toolbar Features:

Toolbar & right-click menu: Direct access to the Maryville Library Catalog, MOBIUS, and Periodicals Search via a toolbar and context (right-click) menu - automatic construction of simple or advanced searches. Search by entering terms, select and right-click, or select and drag-and-drop.

Right-click menus: The right-click menu changes automatically depending on what is selected. For instance, if an ISBN is selected, the context menu will offer the option to search the catalog for that ISBN. Currently recognized are CrossRef DOIs, ISBNs, ISSNs, and PubMed IDs.

"Check MU" button helps find full text articles - drag and drop any article citation from any web page to see if Maryville has that periodical online, just like clicking on a "Check Maryville" link from a library database!

Support for off-campus access: Support for off-campus use via Maryville's proxy server. You may reload any web page through the proxy in the right-click menu, making it appear as though you are coming from an on-campus computer. This feature gives you off-campus access to library-licensed resources.

Easy links added to pages: The toolbar places MU icons in web pages you visit if the library has resources related to that page. Whenever you see the icon, click on it to look at what the library has to offer. For instance, book pages at Amazon or Barnes & Noble contain that icon to check whether Maryville has the book you are looking to buy. Other pages that contain these "embedded" icons are Google, Google Scholar, Yahoo! Search, the NY Times Book Review, and more.

Support for COinS: Some web pages have hidden tags designed to make it easy for tools like this toolbar to create useful links. This special kind of hidden tag is called a COinS tag. This toolbar will take advantage of COinS tags to make useful links to library resources. More information on COinS.
