Business Research Overview



  • Business Insights: Essentials (Gale Business Insights: Essentials)             
    • Type in a company, industry or topic, or browse using the Company Finder or Industries tab
    • Use the Advanced Search for additional searching options for topics
    • Choose the company profile from search results to link to industry information, financials, rankings, and more 
  • Business Source Premier (EBSCOHost)   
    • Use “and” between keywords except exact phrases; * to truncate
    • Try the "Advanced Search" for useful ways to refine your search"--ex: use the company/entity or ticker symbol “limit” boxes; use “Articles on Several Companies” to find articles discussing industry
    • On your results screen, use the document type links to the left (“academic journals”, “magazines”, etc.) to narrow your search
  • Company Dossier (LexisNexis Academic) 
    • Use the Business-Company Dossier feature to pull up most reports, links to article search
      • Disclosure reports
      • Hoover’s Company Records - In-depth 
  • Wall Street Journal (Proquest)  
    • Use “ “ around exact phrases and “and” between keywords; * to truncate
    • Use CO(company name); watch the “suggested topics” area
    • Use SIC() or NAICS(), e.g. NAICS(44211*) – always truncate NAICS’s
